Durabook has announced the availability of two protected tablet models specifically designed for use in areas where gases, vapors, dust and other substances present a significant risk of explosion.

New Durabook R8-EX and U11I-EX Windows 11 tablets are certified according to the European Union's ATEX Zone 2/22 explosion protection certification, meaning they can be used in environments where there are potential sources of ignition, including lightning strikes, stray currents, static electricity, open flames and mechanical sparks.

Compliance with strict regulatory requirements

ATEX certification is a key requirement, often set by the government, for companies whose employees work in environments where there is a significant risk of explosion, such as oil and gas refineries and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Durabook R8-EX and U11I-EX meet the requirements of ATEX Zone 2, where the explosive atmosphere is gas, vapor or mist, and Zone 22, where the explosive material is dust or fibers.

Both models are equipped with Coolfinity fanless cooling, thanks to which you can work safely in hazardous industries. By eliminating the need for a fan, Coolfinity also maximizes reliability and battery life by eliminating a component that consumes power, is a potential cause of failure, and draws dust and other contaminants into the device.

Maximum performance, safety and reliability

People who operate, test and maintain industrial equipment need the ability to quickly and easily download sensitive data, such as production reports and diagnostics, as well as access their own information, including manuals and schematics. The new Durabook R8-EX and U11I-EX tablets are designed to meet these requirements and more.

  • 12th Gen Intel processors deliver lag-free performance even in the most compute-intensive use cases, such as running multiple applications and real-time collaboration.
  • Windows 11 with Secured-core technology provides an additional level of protection. By integrating hardware, software, firmware and identity protection, Secured-core tablets provide the highest level of protection against highly advanced threats, including advanced firmware protection and dynamic trust measurement.
  • Durabook's DynaVue display technology ensures readability even under direct sunlight. The R8-EX tablet has an 8-inch display, while the U11I-EX has an 11.6-inch display. The displays of both tablets support four touch modes (glove, stylus, water, finger) and the ability to connect an additional digital widget.
  • 2MP front-facing webcam is designed for crystal-clear video collaboration and an optional 8MP rear camera with LED flash for crisp images and videos. The U11I-EX model can also be equipped with an optional Windows Hello camera for facial recognition.
  • Wired and wireless broadband connectivity includes Thunderbolt 4, Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 and Bluetooth V5.3 as standard, with optional 4G LTE on both models and optional 5G on the U11I-EX. GPS is also the standard for supporting the navigation of applications that use geolocation.
  • Protection components that meet strict certifications such as MIL-STD-810H (ability to withstand a drop from a height of 6 feet) and IP66 (maximum protection against dust, dirt and water ingress). Both tablets are also designed to operate in extreme temperatures from -20 °C to 60 °C (-4 °F to 140 °F).
  • Ultra-long battery life for maximum productivity, even when workers are away from power sources all day. The U11I-EX has a battery life of up to 10 hours and an optional high-capacity battery that lasts up to 20 hours. The R8-EX can operate up to 8.5 hours from the main replaceable battery and up to 17 hours from the additional high-capacity battery.
